The 2015 season has only just finished but we're already into the booking season for 2016. All our trips and yachts have been updated with 2016 pricing so now is the time to take advantage of those early boooking discounts...next stop the Zoomer show in Toronto on 31 October, see you there!
Thanks to everyone who came to see us at Annapolis Sailboat show. The weather was glorious which in turn got everyone outdoors to see the latest yachts and boat gadgets at the show. Our very own Steven Parry was captured on camera at the show by the ASA (American Sailing Association). You can view the short video here.
It's been a while since we posted on our News page and we're sorry about that! September was a very windy month and this meant typing at the same time as sailing was not possible for our crew! Our 29th August departure left Athens with two cabin charter yachts and midway through the first week, we were lucky enough to have our first overnight anchorage of the year at Kleftico on the southwest tip of Milos. Kleftico is a spectacular stop and the dinghy tours through the caves to the old pirate haunts is an unforgettable experience for everyone. The 12th September departure, will go down in history as the trip with lots of yachts, strong wind, much fun but definitely a few problems thrown in - par for the course when nine yachts are involved, this is adventure sailing after all! Clients joined us from Australia, Canada, United States and the UK aboard the three cabin charter yachts and we saw birthday celebrations, yacht breakdowns and fouled anchors on many occasions! The stories from this departure will go on for many years we are sure! Finally the last departure of the year was a just a quick week but ended the season on an amazing high. When friends and family travel together it always generates a unique type of vacation for everyone - this trip was no exception and we can honestly say that we have never heard so much laughter coming from two yachts in the history of Poseidon! We really hope that we get to sail with the 'Sanders' group again!
If you want to get a feel for who takes our trips and what happens, then all the photos from this year's sailing season are now on our facebook page - click here to view.
Every few months we publsh a short newsletter. It always gives an update on where we are, what's coming up and our sailing question for a bit of a refresher or learning if you're new to sailing. If you want to receive this, then click here to receive. View the latest Poseidon Charters newsletter.
We've been busy keeping you posted on what is happening in Greece over the Euro crisis...now it's time to remind ourselves of what is great about Greece. Here's a few snippets you may not know!
Let's help Greece on it's road to recovery by making it 20 million visitors in 2016!
GREECE UPDATE: THURSDAY 16 JUL 2015 12:30 EST
With everything that is happening in Greece at the minute, it is easy to forget that we have trips that are taking place. It's easy to forget not because it's unimportant, but more because everything is still the same and people are saiilng, shopping, and eating wonderful food in the restaurants. This trip has to be called the ‘2015 family flotilla week’ with Poseidon Charters! It was a large departure from Athens and included families from Calgary, Canada with a 12 and 8 year old; a family from Montreal with 3 kids; 8,12 and 14. A family from California with 2 teenage boys and a double family on a large catamaran from Long Island New York with relatives coming from Rome! There was also a family coming from Australia meeting relatives from Bahrain! Great fun was had by all as the boats set sail from Athens and kids hiked up to see the Classical temple of Aphaia before cooling off in Aegean sea!. Hydra offered more swimming, donkey rides and kids had fun paddling the dinghies! We were sad to lose a couple of people from our lead cabin charter yacht who decided to leave for personal and medical issues but we hope that they sail with us again in the future on a different trip. As with the democratic vote in Greece this week, the group took a vote on the choice of islands, and decided to skip Mykonos this trip and headed for the beauty of Syros on their way back to Athens.
We would like to reassure our customers that the economic crisis and bank closure in Greece will not affect our customer’s valuable vacation time in any way aside from needing to carry additional funds. Poseidon Charters are still fully operational in Greece and our crew and clients aboard our flotilla and cabin deparutre this week have not experienced anything other than a 'normal operational Greece'. Funds paid to Poseidon Charters are placed in Intrust bank accounts in Canadian bank accounts which are regulated by Canadian banking laws and your charter is therefore guaranteed to be delivered.
The adventure started this week with 5 yachts and guests coming from California, Australia, Canada and UK. There was lead yacht Christianna with her crew from Windsor Ontario, the second lead yacht Poseidon with folks from UK, Chicago and California. Joining the flotilla we had 3 yachts, with crews from Queensland Australia, Los Angeles and San Francisco. The flotilla motor sailed through Aegina, Poros and Hydra with very hot and still weather, finally finding some relief from the heat swimming at Kythnos. Arriving at the sand bar we enjoyed a huge BBQ for 24 people. On the menu was grilled lamb, chicken, juicy Hydra sausage and kalamari stuffed with tomatoes and feta cheese. A wonderful time was had by all ashore while the food was expertly grilled by Capt. Satefanos and Capt. Steve. Once the meal was eaten ‘buffet style’ aboard the rafted yachts, 2 bonfires and 20 tea lights lit up the beach from one end to the other. A few late night guests made it to the hot tub for some milky-way gazing and an after dinner nite-cap! Another unforgettable night experienced under the Aegean stars!!
From our halfway point at Ios we skipped through the waves past Homer's point to the little islet of Skinoussa. Here we indulged ourselves at Sweet Deli taverna, on Kalamari stuffed with sundries tomatoes and feta cheese along with a delicious local goat with fettuccine. Heading North after Skinoussa, we arrived for a swip stop at Tigania and a fantastic lunch prepared by the crew. Everyone swam and loved the azure waters of this little cove just around the corner from Paros island. A group decision to skip Mykonos was made so next we sailed to the very beautiful and less visited island of Syros where everyone hiked up to see both the Catholic and Orthodox cathedrals on their respective hills! We're always on the look out for new restaurants to add to our repotoire and in Syros wondering the streets the crew found a new restaurant named Mazi. The beautiful lush vegitated dining courtyard is surrounded by 19th century arches meeting 40ft in the air! Said to be an old ceramics factory, but more likely to have also been a church at some point, Mazi was put down as one to try on future trips! Sailable winds took us all the way back to Athens via stops at Paros and Kea. A perfect cruise was the consensus arriving back in Athens on Friday evening.
For the next few weeks we will be making a few vital changes to our site to ensure that it is mobile friendly. Please bear with us if you find a few pages that look a little strange, or have links that may not work correctly. We aim to have the site back to normal and better for all devices in the few weeks. Thank you...and don't forget you can always call us to discuss your charter on 1 888 372 7245.
Setting sail on our first full two-week Cycladic adventure this season we saw guests from Georgia, Colorado and Ontario aboard our beautiful Ocean Star vessels Christiana VIII and Possidon. Everyone really enjoyed visiting Hydra and the energetic crews onboard hiked the 3-hour round trip up to the monastery. Leaving Hydra, the first true Meltemi of the season arrived, with three solid days of beautiful sailing that all crews were up for! Arriving at Kamares sand bar on the island of Kythnos, we enjoyed a wonderful barbecue meal cooked ashore by Captain Stefanos. The next passage to Sifnos was the highlight of the week as Christiana VIII sailed on a perfect wing on wing and both yachts were neck and neck after a bit of a race – Christiana VIII just beating Possidon on the home straight! Arriving at Platy Yalos, Sifnos, crews took a break from Greek gastronomy for a night and loved pizza at Mama Mia Italian restaurant on the beach! The last sail of the week was another windy day. A great broad reach took us to Ios island and the first visit of 2015 to Liostasi Boutique hotel for massages, pedicures and poolside cocktails. We sadly said goodbye to four guests from Ontario, but eight others returned from a two-day excursion to Santorini for the second half of the Aegean adventure!
Beautiful spring poppies and other colourful flowers welcomed the first crews to Greece for the start of our sailing season of 2015. As the summer kicks in, it gets so hot in Greece that these flowers wither away so it was a nice treat to see beautiful colours aside from the Aegean sea blue and Cyclades blue of course! Leaving Athens, our sailing cruise and flotilla headed into cool sparkling seas with two boats. Onboard, our Ocean Star 56.1 Posseidon, were Chiropractors coming from an international conference in Athens. Onboard Melia an Oceanis 43, was a family from San Francisco with our resident skipper Stephanos at the helm. Glorious weather and light sailing was enjoyed each day, and although the water was cool as it's May, everyone swam! Food is such an important part of our trip and we quite literally eat our way through the islands at places such as Kristina's in Hydra where we ate a selection of yummy mezze style foods of saganaki cheese, dolmades, and of course a classically great Greek salad! Once we left the Saronic Gulf we headed to Kythnos, a Cycladic island where everyone enjoyed chill-out time and relaxation in the natural thermal beach hot tubs. The week ended too soon back in Athens, but unlike the flowers, the memories will of course last a lifetime!
As with anything in life...sometimes things happen and plans change. We've had a few cancellations and would like to get these yachts booked again! Drop us an email if you would like more information.

Each year we sail with 100's of people, take 1000's of photos and hours of video footage. Lots of this footage is used to populate our facebook site, and for our promotional videos. However, the best form of marketing for us is our past happy sailors. Trip Advisor doesn't allow sailing companies to have their own pages or your reviews so we try to post as much as possible on our site for future clients to read - and hope they believe what is genuinly true! This week we received not only feedback but a story from Sherrie and Paul, lovely clients from Texas who sailed with us in 2014. It was so nice we felt we should share it! Read Sailing in Greece with Poseidon Charters here. Thanks Sherrie and Paul we also appreciate you putting it on the Greece Forum on Trip Advisor.
We are lucky enough here at Poseidon Charters to sail in Greece from May through to the end of September. We know the islands we love to visit time and time again but we always ask our sailors after their trip what is their favourite island. We are never surprised that the island of Hydra always seems to come out on top year after year! Read more about Hydra from our sailing cruise itinerary.
Additional dates released for sailing cruises in the Caribbean. Explore Bequia, the first island in the Grenadines archipelago, with its un-spoilt charm, enjoy wonderful island hikes to the volcano Soufriere of St Vincent and discover Mustique, the island of the rich and famous. This is a great adventure sailing holiday destination for new and experienced sailors to practice and non-sailors to relax and experience island life on a luxury shared yacht. Click to find out the dates and more information.
There's only 9 days to go until the start of the largest in water boat show in Texas. From 26th March, we'll be at booth 18 in the Sailing Village and we'd love to chat to both past and future customers from Texas. You can visit the show website to find out opening times be clicking this link.
The show is being held at South Shore Harbour Marina, 2501 South Shore Blvd, League City, TX 77573
See you in Texas!

The crew play such an important role in creating a magical sailing trip and for this summer we are pleased to welcome Marie-Pierre to our Greek crew. Marie is from Quebec, Canada and she will be working aboard Christianna VIII and Possidon with Captain Steven, Captain Stephanos and Sharron. This weekend Marie has already been a tremendous help at the Toronto boat show where she has been getting to grips with the logistics of cabin charters, flotillas and bareboats in Greece. Today is the last day for the boat shows in Toronto and Chicago, thank you to everyone who has stopped by to say hi and for those who attended the seminars on Cruising the Med, we hope it proved useful for you.
The holiday season is over and as the decorations come down, our thoughts turn to the boat shows. Our first shows are in January in Toronto and Chicago - we look forward to seeing you there.
