Best time to visit: June through November is considered hurricane season and typically humid, wetter weather. The month of December and the month of April are good times to visit with fewer visitors and comfortable weather. High season is mid-December to March, but avoid March spring break when thousands of students arrive.

Isla Contoy… is a national park sanctuary and a bird-lovers delight. About 800m wide and 7km long, the island's dense foliage provides ideal shelter for more than 100 species of tropical birds. The park visitor's center provides information on the island habitat and features a 27m high observation tower.
Boca Iglesias… offers a hike to see the ruins of a 16th century colonial Spanish church, where in 1523 Francisco Montejo Jr. battled with local Maya. To reach the abandoned site of Boca Iglesias, a hike weaves through mangroves and dense jungle so keep your eyes peeled for local spider monkeys.
