A New Definition of Performance Cruising
Seven years after the introduction of the Oceanis range in 1985, Beneteau launches a new generation of these performance cruising yachts: The Oceanis 440.
Feedback from hundreds of owners has provided Beneteau with knowledge to further perfect the Oceanis concept. The Oceanis 440 is enriched with the technological advances of Beneteaus Research Department. The Beneteau Water Shield System places an impervious shield between the gelcoat and the laminate. This innovation prevents the penetration of water and the potential for osmotic blistering of the hull. Beneteau uses a structural grid system in the construction of the hull to provide maximum stiffness as well as correct rig and keel load distribution.
Bruce Farr designed the Oceanis 440 for maximum performance with minimal effort. Her bulb keel with winglets, gives optimum lift and stability plus all the benefits of shoal draft. She is equipped with an in-mast mainsail furler and genoa furler which make sail setting and stowage childs play. Side decks and cockpit are completely clear of tracks, winches and maneuvering lines making movement around the deck easy and safe.
And if the wind drops, the powerful auxiliary, driving a three-bladed propeller, will get you where you want to go in plenty of time. Once the anchor is set for the night, the large cockpit table becomes the center of social activity on board. If a dip before dinner would feel nice, simply open the transom gate and her swim platform with ladder and shower await you.
This is the Oceanis lifestyle...
A Myriad of Luxurious Details
Three coats of varnish protect all wooden surfaces of the interior. Molded companionway steps with non-skid inserts provide safety under-way. The aft head is accessible from both the salon and the aft cabin.
Adjustable easy chairs are found forward and aft of the navigation table. Storage compartments can be found along the hull side and in the large locker at the forward end of the salon. Ample light and air enter through the many ports and hatches.
The galley features a three burner propane stove with oven, a double, stainless steel sink with mixing faucet and cutting board. The top loading freezer and front loading refrigerator are lined with stainless steel and provide 7.3 cubic feet of food and beverage storage. Plenty of light and ventilation make cooking in this galley a pleasure.
The easy to clean, one-piece molded head compartments feature stainless steel towel bars, vanity mirrors, and hot and cold hand held showers. Shower drains are pumped directly over board using their own dedicated pumps.
Two large deck hatches provide excellent ventilation to the spacious owner's cabin. Two fixed hull ports provide additional light. The centerline double berth, measuring over 7 feet in length, has a storage drawer beneath it. A large hanging locker, drawers, shelves and a settee round out the luxurious accommodation. The owner's private head and shower are to starboard.
The private aft cabin of the Oceanis 440 is spacious, airy and accommodating, and makes your guests feel right at home. A large hanging locker is provided as are shelves and drawers. Plenty of light and ventilation enter through opening ports and hatches. Two fixed ports provide additional light to this luxurious cabin.
The Hardware Department
Her Farr-designed keel has a torpedo-shaped bulb with winglets for optimum lift and stability.
The spacious cockpit has teak seating surfaces for good looks, safety and comfort. The steering pedestal serves many purposes. Engine instruments are mounted in clear view, the single lever engine control is right at hand. Spaces are provided for navigational instrument repeaters and on the forward end of the pedestal can be found drink holders and the cockpit table light.
The double spreader furling mast has forward and aft lowers. The sail is controlled by an inhaul and an outhaul line led aft to the port side maneuvering winch.
Oceanis 440 sidedecks and cockpit are safe and uncluttered as the mainsheet traveller and genoa tracks are mounted on the coachroof. A deck cowling covers all lines running aft to the cockpit from the mast.
Genoa sheets and maneuvering lines are controlled by large self-tailing winches. Rope tails can be conveniently stored in the storage compartments provided on the cockpit bulkhead. And that makes sitting in this most popular of all cockpit corners more comfortable than it has ever been.
The anchor locker contains the electrical anchor windlass and the below deck genoa furling drum. The stemhead casting has two anchor rollers, one of which tilts and is balanced forward to allow easy lowering of the anchor.
We invite you to go further.
In a few short pages it is hard to tell a big story about a truly innovative boat that will change the way people think about cruising sailboats. This is the boat that will prove that sailing performance doesnt have to mean great amounts of physical effort.
We believe in sailing performance because you can always slow down a fast boat to suit your pace, but you certainly cannot make a slow boat go fast when you need her to.
We build the Oceanis 440 to take anything that the elements can throw at her, but we also make her agile enough to get out of the way.
