Oceanis 461

Awarded 1997 Boat of the Year

Category: Full-Size Cruiser - Best Value by Cruising World

The concept and construction of the Oceanis 461 has not been left to chance. Owing much to her predecessors, whether in terms of her dimensions, the technology used or in aesthetic and practical choices, the Oceanis 461 fits perfectly into Beneteau's "luxury cruising" range.

The Oceanis 461 has a vocation for long-distance cruising, in the greatest comfort and safety. Her long hull, designed by Bruce Farr and Associates, has great potential for impressive speed and gives the Oceanis 461 the impression of the "quiet strength" found in large sailing yachts.

Her rigging is also classic and efficient: a masthead furling genoa (drum on deck) guarantees the necessary power for an easy passage across the seas of the world, and the in-mast roller furling main provides the luxury of effortless sailing. The optional semi full battened mainsail is equipped with lazy jacks, facilitating both furling and sail reduction when necessary, whilst conserving the efficiency and pleasure of the classic mainsail.

The construction of the Oceanis 461 has been undertaken using the same principles that have made such a success of the whole range: the glued and laminated inner moulding ensuring the best possible spread of rigging loads throughout the hull.

Her deck layout reflects the spirit of comfort and efficiency that has prevailed in the Oceanis 461 from her concept: teak-capped bulkhead for elegance and safety, electric winch half sunk into the anchor well thereby providing the best position for raising the anchor chain, large sunbathing area forward, uncluttered sidedecks due to the chainplates having been moved inwards to the coachroof.

As for the vast cockpit, it is easily accessible via a door in the transom which is also equipped with deep lockers. The wheel steering position has a full console, to which a large cockpit table with hinged flaps and icebox is joined.

The Oceanis 461 is available in two accommodation layouts, depending on your preference and type of sailing, arranged around the immense salon.

Whatever your choices, the warm atmosphere of the cherrywood (teak as an option) welcomes you into the salon cabins bathed with natural light (7 opening deck hatches and 12 opening portholes!).

Particular attention needs to be paid to autonomy a sailing yacht that can accommodate up to 8 people for long-distance cruising, whether in terms of fuel capacity, fresh water or supplies... The Oceanis 461 is well designed for this: 53 gallons fuel capacity, 218 gallons of fresh water, a galley with numerous baskets and lockers for supplies, fridge/freezer in two compartments, and last but not least, the large independent head compartments (up to three depending on layout selected), allowing you to spend many carefree days at sea.

The Oceanis 461 belongs to this "breed" of sailing yachts that is set apart from the others: designed completely for life at sea, their limitations are only those defined by you.
