Do you feel the need for speed or are you a sit back and take in the scenery sailor? You might want to consider this question when you are deciding which type of catamaran to charter for your crewed charter in Greece this summer.

Each year we see a many new yachts coming onto the market. A few years back, it was the simple choice between a monohull or a catamaran. Now the choice is even wider with Power Catamarans coming into the market. The luxury element is there for both of these catamarans, but there are other subtle differences you might want to consider before choosing which one is right for you.

  1. Speed. If you prioritize getting from one place to another quickly seeing as much as you can on your sailing vacation then choose a power catamaran. Engine sizes on a power catamaran can be as large as 480hp per engine vs a sailing catamaran having auxiliary engines at around 45hp per engine.
  2. Smells. Engines that generate speed, will also generate smells! If you want to sail the sea powered by wind only, you'll also take in all that lovely fresh air too!
  3. Fuel. Large engines, mean large fuel bills but it all boils down to what you want from your valuable vacation time. You will see a lot if you spend a lot on fuel!
  4. Space. Both power catamarans and sailing catamarans are spacious vessels. There is one key difference, if you don't sail you don't need sails meaning the deck is free of a mast and all the rigging that goes with the sails.
  5. Skills. Learning how to sail is exciting and there's nothing more rewarding than getting from one destination to another by just the power of the wind on your sails. If you've never sailed before though, then it's not something you'll be able to do without professional crew onboard so a small power catamaran may be more for you.
