Our third departure of the year began with a group of friends from the United States and beautiful smooth sailing in no more than 5 Beaufort. This meant for the first time this year, we had the treat of the stunning overnight anchorage at Kleftiko with a BBQ under the starry Greek skies. In Ios, after saying goodbye to our new American friends, we welcomed aboard a new crew of South African honeymooners and a Canadian family of 4; the wind also changed and altered the itinerary which meant we could visit Serifos and Iraklia. As this trip comes to a close, once again Greece has given us golden tans and we’ve enjoyed lots of sunny hikes, dolphin races and amazing food every night!

The first week of our Croatian flotilla has seen sunny skies, great sailing and happy holidayers aboard the lead yacht and flotilla yachts.  Lead yacht Rok has great sails and the crew has tacked, trimmed and become at one with the boat.  A stunning sunset looking out over the Kornati islands has been a highlight as has Croatia’s little known but exquisite gastronomy each night with grilled fish, smoked Dalmatian prosciutto, cuttlefish risotto and octopus salad… worth the airfare in itself! A sad farewell today to Jeanne alias ‘Seal’; for being the first to jump in the sea when a line was needed ashore and for wrestling mooring balls up onto the deck! Our second departure of the year left the Saronic Gulf after a few lovely days and headed on a great downwind crossing to Milos in 6 Beaufort northerly winds. Margarita hit 11.6 knots with her new mainsail and the new crew landed a 15lb yellowfin tuna! The wind kept us for two days at Milos harbour, so we toured the whole island by minivan and were guided to a natural  ‘Pirates jacuzzi’ as well as many other geological wonders! On our second night in Milos we dined like kings on seared fresh tuna in olive oil, soya sauce, honey and garlic – fantastic! 

How quickly the winter had passed and on our first week of the flotilla season we’ve enjoyed some lovely sailing with new friends from Toronto aboard our beautiful  Jeanneau 49 Ealis and a smaller group aboard Naias our 37 foot Jeanneau. The Greek islands are just as colourful and beautiful as ever and after time in Hydra, we arrived at Mandraki Milos where we were invited into Stelios’ fishing garage to learn about nets, lines and tiny Greek fishing boats, before swimming off the cliffs and caves of Sarakiniko. Our activities were rewarded by an exquisite meal of seafood, salads and pasta at Yialos taverna in Pollonia. After two days exploring Milos, we then set sail for Ios where we were welcomed by Liostasi’s boutique hotel and treated to a stunning view of the sunset while sipping cocktails and taking a dip in the pool. Ending the first week with yet another phenomenal Greek meal served by Greek service industry professionals, it’s great to see that Greece is open for tourism like never before!

In its 44th year, the United States Sailboat show attracts more than 50,000 boating enthusiasts from around the world to the waterfront of historic Annapolis, Maryland. After a 3-year break from Annapolis we’re looking forward to heading down to Maryland in October 2013 and we’ll be exhibiting in the travel destination area on the floating dock.
