Happy New Year to our customers, partners and friends we hope that 2014 has started well. We’ve just returned from our BVI New Year flotilla and already the sun, sea, sand and the sailing seems a distant memory. We had a wondeful flotilla of 35 people on 5 yachts and bringing in the New Year at Virgin Gorda was very special and unique experience. We’re just about to start the 2014 Toronto boat show with the launch of our brand new promotional video for sailing in Greece.  If you want to brave the cold this winter, then come and visit us, we’re hear to talk to you about our passion for The Med…see you at the show! 

Wishing our customers, partners and friends Happy Holidays and a healthy and prosperous 2014. It’s the British Virgin Islands now and we look forward to meeting our 5 yacht flotilla crews this Saturday 28th December.

Last week we headed down to Annapolis for the oldest in water sail boat show in North America. Expecting sunshine, we pitched our booth on the floating dock in the Vacation basin only to be greeted by rain for 4 days! There were those who braved the torrential down pours and it was great to talk to you about plans for Greece and Croatia 2014 under an umbrella!! On day 4 the sun finally came out as did our banners to let the glorious Annapolis sunshine bring beautiful Greece and Croatia alive! All too quickly the summer sailing season in Greece and Croatia has come to an end. We’ve swam in new bays, enjoyed wonderful sailing conditions, met new friends and eaten our way through fantastic restaurants in both Greece and Croatia. Thanks to everyone who has sailed with us this summer and we hope to sail with you again at some point in the future. We’re off to Annapolis Boat show next week and then down to the British Virgin Islands in December for our New Year flotilla. After 23 years sailing in Greece we’ve always said that no two trips are the same and it certainly proved that way for this trip. September proved popular for us, so we added a second cabin charter yacht to join Margarita, namely Yiannis 65 a beautiful Hanse 54. Heavy winds on day two changed our Hydra course and took both Margarita and Yiannis 65 to delightful Ermioni and as the winds continued we also had to extend our stay in Adamas port on the island of Milos. Having that extra time in Milos gave us a free day to explore more at Sarakiniko where some of the crew swam to a wreck in the next bay…an absolute highlight of the trip and a first for Poseidon. On our way to Ios we stopped at a stunning bay, where just under the waterline, pure white, perfectly smooth boulders of all sizes could be found. Years of waves crashing into this bay had caused the rocks to roll over each other making them perfectly smooth and ideal for gifts back home! Both yachts stopped in the bay and Margarita’s crew welcomed everyone aboard for a cappuccino and pancakes! We said goodbye to the Yiannis crew in Ios and Margarita continued on her last trip back to Athens with two new crew, Gavin and Laura from Canada, joining us for a leg of their European honeymoon. Taking in Skinoussa, Paros, Mykonos, Delos and Kea we ended our season in Skippers Bar on a high with a ‘special crew award’ being given to Darlene for great services to Margarita’s galley – thanks again Darlene!

Sometimes, it seems that people are meant to meet, and on this trip that was very true with couples from Australia, and Canada forming new friendships for life. Also onboard Margarita we welcomed Matt, a videographer from Toronto invited to film a new promotional video for Poseidon. In addition to Margarita on flotilla was Ealis with a group of friends from Oregon and also Anerada with a lovely repeat flotilla sailor family from Brazil onboard. The trip started great and after a fun pirate night in Hydra we headed down to Milos for our first ever wedding at Kleftico bay. The crew of Ealis decorated the bow of the yacht with stunning bougainvillea and after official ‘I do’s’ were out of the way, the bride and groom jumped into the turquoise waters for what was to be a day they will never forget. Congratulations again Nina and James and thank you for allowing us to be part of your special day and great BBQ wedding feast on the rocks! Heading to Ios, we swam at Blue Lagoon Bay, the conditions this trip were perfect to stop and dive into the crystal clear waters – so clear you could see your own reflection below. Just as we thought the day couldn’t get any better, as we left the bay, dolphins joined us on the bow, a truly incredible experience for everyone. After the return leg including Paros, Delos, Mykonos and Kea we returned back to Athens with what was now a group of close friends onboard – thank you crew of Margarita for making this such a fun and memorable trip!

We love welcoming large groups of friends aboard and for our departure on 24 August we sailed with a group of friends from New Zealand – and one complimentary Australian! After a fun night as pirates in Hydra we set off for BBQ night at Kithnos, where Sean as master chef, cooked lamb and sausage to perfection! The evening ended on a high with the crew lying in the sand looking up counting shooting stars – a very special evening. After a fun week of swimming and star jumping off Margarita, the trip ended with one last full crew jump just outside the marina in Athens. Thank you Beal group for being such a pleasure to have onboard and for ‘jumping’ it certainly is the shot of the decade! 

On July 27 we welcomed a young family from the UK aboard. After a few days of relaxing sailing in the Saronic Gulf we left Hydra reasonably early and motor-sailed across 50 miles of beautiful blue sea to Merikas, Kithnos. On the way we hooked 2 tuna at the same time on two trolling lines – unfortunately one snapped the line but the second fish we landed! At Kithnos the whole family bathed in the natural hot springs at Kamares beach and later that day we went to Loutra on the east of the island and dined from tables in the sand at Sailor’s Taverna. Sailing to Kea island, we enjoyed a fantastic sail in 6 Beaufort winds across the Kithnos/Kea Channel and the next morning, enjoyed a wonderful morning hike to see the 21ft, 600BC Lion sculpture before returning to Athens. Thank you Quigley family for taking your first yachting holiday with us and special thanks to young Rory, the 8 year old boy, who got hooked on the whole mariner way of life. Rory you are officially our best client of the season so far always smiling, excited and eager to learn and do more aboard ship – we hope to see you back as one our skippers when you’re older!
