We can’t believe it’s March already – the sailing season will be here before we know it. Now is the time to pick up a last minute cabin special. 

Thinking of of a yacht charter in Greece before the rush of the season starts? If you love the peace of the harbours, the quietness of the towns and you don’t mind the water being a bit on the cool side, then booking a yacht charter in Greece in the early part of the sailing season could be for you. With boats available throughout the month of April, you’re sure to get a great deal if you beat the crowds. From Kos to Corfu there are boats available at many bases in Greece. 

How was the start of your year? It was a very cold and snowy January here in Ottawa and we saw temperatures dip as low as -38C with wind factor. According to the Met office, we had more recorded snow in January than we have seen in over a 100 years! We know our friends in the mid-West States are also having an equally bad winter and now the UK has just joined in the chill. On the other side of the planet, our Australian friends are at the opposite end of the spectrum with 38C at 6:30pm! Planning a trip away always helps to get through a more challenging winter so we’ve decided to extend our early booking discount which was due to finish on 31st January. The offer will now run until after the LA Travel and Adventure show ending on Sunday 17th February 2019. Our cabin charter trips are sold out in September in Greece, but we do have a few cabins available in June and July. If you want to escape the cold winter sooner, then of course there is BVI, St Martin and Martinque with new offers too. See you at the LA at the Travel and Adventure show from 12th Feburay-19th February or hopefully this summer in Greece. For now…keep warm or stay cool!

Our cabin charter sailing trips in Greece are a unique mix of adventure, sailing and the finest gastronomy and due to that, 95% of the time departures are made up of a mix of couples and groups of older friends. Every now and again though, we do get a request from families with children who want to join. As long as everyone onboard is ok with children, then we welcome these requests and seeing Greece through the eyes of children is always a magical experience not only for the parents, but everyone else onboard and the crew.Last summer we welcomed the Gallaghers onboard with us and they loved the experience so much they allowed us to ask them a few questions about their experience. If you’re thinking of sailing in Greece with younger children, remember you don’t have to sail the way the Gallaghers did. You can also charter your own boat and follow us on flotilla – we’ll also provide a skipper to help show the kids somthing about sailing. Chartering your own boat on flotilla gives you the autonomy of your own yacht, but the fun of the group when we get to the next island each day.

Every year we love to get out and about and meet new faces to talk about sailing in Greece, Croatia and Tahiti. Our presentations and seminars at these shows allow you to see what sailing in our top destinations is really like and gives you the chance to ask specific questions. As soon as we start sailing in Greece, the season seems to be over – in this fast paced world we all live in, one year becomes the next very quickly! We’re pleased to confirm our 2019 schedule for our cabin charters sailing in Greece and we’re also excited to confirm both cabin charter boats. Our 56-60ft boats are specifically designed for the larger seas of the Aegean, as they are heavier built to offer more stability. They are also the largest and most spacious monohull yachts in the Greek cabin charter industry, designed by Ocean Star, they have 5 to 6 double cabins all with private washrooms and cabin fans. When you book with us, you will be confirmed to sail aboard one of these very comfortable 40 ton vessels which all have similar layout and features. At Poseidon Charters we love sailing…it’s who we are, it’s what we do best and we have been sharing Greece with hundreds of people every summer since the mid 90’s. Safety is always our paramount concern and respecting published forecasts is something we have to do to run our tours safely. On Sunday, after our new guests boarded in Ios, there was a tough decision to make, and it is with heavy heart that Capt’s Steven and Akis have decided to not continue with our Athens to Ios itinerary this week. Extreme winds are heading over the Saronic and central Aegean from Tuesday and although both boats at 56ft and 60ft are equipped to deal with the weather, it is not a safe nor a comfortable passage for guests. Both cabin charter boats left Ios yesterday morning for a night under the stars at Kithnos and are now underway on a wonderful calm sail towards Athens. Tomorrow, and for the first time in over 25 years…our cabin charter boats, Christianna and Santorini will be safely in Athens, ahead of the extremely bad weather starting on Tuesday. This is obviously very disappointing for everyone concerned and we will try our best to ensure guests enjoy some arranged land tours if they choose. 

Whether you call it a cabin charter, shared yacht, sailing cruise or a sailing tour…it’s all the same thing when it boils down to it and that is that you are sharing a yacht with strangers! We welcomed Valerie Keast onboard earlier this summer and she has written a wonderful article of what her experience was like.
